Bonita Community Member Highlight - Jeremy Jay V. Lim aka "smartgeek"

Today, we are inteviewing Jeremy Jay V. Lim, known as smartgeek in the community.

Please tell us a bit about yourself.

I am currently working as a Six Sigma Program Manager in a local bank, where I practice Six Sigma process improvement methodology and incorporate IT-enabled change initiatives whenever necessary. Apart from my current banking exposure, I have had previous experience of executing and leading process improvement projects in manufacturing and financial services.
What kind of projects have you used BonitaSoft Open Solution with?
I've personally designed POC (Proof of Concept) process flows for Credit Card Promo application requisition, where the process facilitates the application process, including basic calculation of credit card monthly interest rates. BonitaSoft Open Solution helped me automate this manual, iterative and time consuming process, previously done in Excel. Recently, I also created a design to manage about 70 company-wide Six Sigma projects, which were intended to track their widely varying status, currently based on the standard DMAIC phases. BonitaSoft Open Solution helped simplify the complexity and lighten the burden of manually tracking the timelines and status, thanks to the embedded reminders based on set deadlines. I am comfortable and confident with the features and workflow functionalities of Bonitasoft and strongly believe that it is robust enough to handle my identified future business requirements. I see myself using Bonitasoft for a very very long time!
How did you start using BonitaSoft Open Solution?
I took interest in Bonitasoft workflow when I learned that it can do process flow designs and executable BPMN process models with a Near Zero-Coding approach, Near Zero-Development Downtime and especially at Near Zero-Cost! It was such a good alternative to what I've been using before, which was more of a "Free-mium" BPMN process tool.
Name 3 features of BonitaSoft Open Solution that you really like.
I fell in love with Bonitasoft as I learned more about its features and how it satisfied my requirements in the following ways:

a) It’s a great business communication tool for explaining the process flow clearly to the business partners, without mumbo-jumbo flowchart icons.
b) It encourages and strengthens collaboration between the business and IT, by streamlining the process flow and then developing the process automation with less reworking in between. In this way, there is less loss during translation between business requirements and the creation of technical specifications.
c) Zero-Coding approach, period. I function as a Business Process Analyst and am not a developer. This means with BOS’ features, including built-in and customizable connectors, I can create top-of-the-class process integration and automation. 'Nough said.

Why did you choose BOS?

The BOS community version is open, in that it allows even community users to get top-of-the-class features that only run in the licensed version of other BPM workflow tools. I believe in Bonitasoft's policy of democratizing BPM technology as an enabler of process improvements, process automation and systems orchestration.

I also love Bonitasoft’s process simulation features which help me analyze the process flow, such as given sampled processing time, to see if it would make sense in the real world to run the proposed process design.
This is very unique to the BOS community version, because not only can it (Bonitasoft workflow) do “Process Emulation” but also “Process Simulation” which again is only available in paid licensed versions of other BPM workflow tools.

What do you find useful or helpful about the Bonita community?

As a user, I find it useful when: a) I can exchange ideas with others b) I get to test the robustness of my suggested solutions with other polite community members c) I get free community support when I post a question and get an answer back within 2~3 days d) I get to try the contributed designs of other community users

I think a community version tool can only be successful if there is an active community supporting it.
I think that Bonitasoft has a strong and active community. In fact, I am not just a passive member who benefits from other members’ contributions, I also take time to contribute and share my ideas.
Outside the online community, I think it is also important that I mention to the world that not only do I talk non-stop about process improvement, but I even evangelize others about the benefits of using BonitaSoft Open Solution for enabling process streamlining and automation.
In short, the way I see it, Bonitasoft’s community is not just online but also active in the real world. So I believe I am helping it to develop as I talk about real successful BPM projects.

I don’t have a blog, but I have written some presentation material and whitepapers featuring Bonitasoft workflow as the enabler of Lean Six Sigma process improvement and automation. They are available for sharing on request.

Thank you for answering my questions, Jeremy. Do you have a last word before the interview comes to an end ?

Thank you for your interview. I am passionate not only about Lean Six Sigma process improvement methodology but also about Bonitasoft Workflow Open Solution, as an enabler and as the "Steroids to Hype up Process Optimization."

More power to BonitaSoft!
