Dear community,
Adam Deane recently offered a tongue-in-cheek list of stereotypes for the BPM crowd. We open-sourcers are “the BPM Brady Bunch” – young, innovative, and friendly. Yo. Us.
And hey! right alongside there’s this recent Financial Times article about the agony of corporate-speak.
Some of us Brady Bunch are old enough to be a bit old school when it comes to clear communication. So here’s one interpretation of BPM-speak. Let the communication begin.
workflow | how stuff gets done |
business process interoperability | how stuff gets done across organizations |
Business Process Management | defining how stuff gets done |
business-driven development | how stuff gets done according to management |
business process modeling | a picture of how stuff gets done |
Business Process Management Notation | how to draw a picture of how stuff gets done |
business process reengineering | fixing how stuff gets done so it gets done better |
continuous improvement | always fixing how stuff gets done |
business process automation, workflow automation | using software to get some/all of the stuff done |
business process management software | the software that ties the stuff together |
process based applications | getting stuff done using the web |
process-driven applications | getting useful stuff done using the web |
key performance indicators | measurable numbers about how much stuff gets done, how fast stuff gets done, etc |
business activity monitoring | keeping an eye on those numbers |
business analytics | keeping both eyes on those numbers |
case management | whoa! This isn't in our process. |
social BPM | using the latest coolest technology in communication tools to get stuff done |
in the cloud | stuff you can do online |
.
