How can I notify actors other than in dashboard, when a task being allocated to them?

I want to notify actors when a task being allocated to them. I found that in dashboard it is notifying but, I'm looking for an other option like sending an email, because dashboard notifications are not much prominent(According to my perspective). Is there a way to notify actors when a task being allocated to them?
