A special feature of BPMN compared to other process modeling notations is the possibility to model process collaborations.

The collaboration consists of two or more separate processes that communicate via message flow. A process can send a message that starts another process, or a message is sent to an existing process instance that has already been waiting for this message at a message-catching intermediate event.

Thomas, one of our active community members has posted an amazing contribution to the projects where he shows an example of a process collaboration consisting of two processes communicating via message flow.

He also explains the advantages of using collaboration and how to correlate messages to process instances.

You can find his contribution here.

You can also find his blog detailing process collaboration and message flows here. You can also download the .bos file he uses to show this example on his blog. Thank you Thomas for your valuable contribution!
